John G. Taft is CEO of RBC Wealth Management–U.S., one of the largest full-service investment, advisory, and wealth management firms in the United States. John is a former chairman of the Securities Industry and Financial Markets Association (SIFMA), a former member of the CFA Institute's Future of Finance Advisory Council, and has served a wide range of not-for-profit and public service organizations. Prior to his finance career, John was assistant to the mayor of the city of St. Paul, Minnesota, and a journalist. He is a direct descendant of U.S. President William Howard Taft and Senator Robert A. Taft.
Taft is the author of two books. His first book, Stewardship: Lessons Learned from the Lost Culture of Wall Street, published in 2012, looked back at the financial crisis and called on the industry to return to its stewardship principles. The book explores the importance of stewardship as a core principle — for Taft personally; for the financial services industry; for the global financial system; and for society. His latest book, A Force for Good: How Enlightened Finance Can Restore Faith in Capitalism, looks forward and offers innovative ideas on how the financial system can evolve to contribute more consistently to positive societal outcomes and help secure a better future for everyone.
